Why use the word Science to describe your religion?
We use the word Science to describe our religion because it can be demonstrated.

We see God as the divine Principle underlying the healing work of Christ Jesus.  He operated through timeless spiritual laws rather than special miraculous acts.  These spiritual laws can be used today,  scientifically applied to every human ill. Science can be demonstrated.

Is Christian Science Scientology?
Christian Science is NOT Scientology.

Christian Science is centered on God and the Bible and was founded in 1897 by Mary Baker Eddy.  Scientology was founded in 1953 as an independent religion by L Ron Hubbard.

Is a Christian Scientist a Christian?
Christian Scientists are expected to live their Christianity seven days a week.

One of the tenets of Christian Science reads  “And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful , just and pure.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures)

What is your idea of God?
God is closer than the air we breathe, the sunlight we stand in.

The Apostle Paul says, “…..in him we live, and move, and have our being.” Divine Love is God, who father and mothers everything that is good, real and lovely. He is all good, and only good.  We can turn with complete trust to His infinite and power and understanding. Mrs. Eddy, In Science and Health, defines God as “all- knowing, all-seeing, all -acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal: Principle; Mind; Soul, Spirit;  Life; Truth; Love…”

What place does Jesus Christ have in your teaching?
Jesus Christ is everywhere.

The words and works of Jesus Christ, as described in the New Testament, are the very basis of Christian Science.  Jesus furnished humanity with the perfect example of what it means to be the son of God.

How do you practice prayer?
Prayer in Christian Science means the desire to let God’s will be done.

It is knowing that God’s will is always good, always on the side of peace, joy, health, and holiness. Prayer doesn’t plead with God; it acknowledges His presence and power and  His perfect love and control. In our church we have silent prayer as well as the Lord’s Prayer.

What is Christian Science healing?
Christian Science healing is special.

A distinctive part of Christian Science healing is its healing of physical disease as well as sin. These things are by spiritual means alone as Jesus himself taught and practiced. Christian Science draws its authority from the Bible.

Is a Christian Scientist allowed to go to a doctor?
Like anyone else a Christian Scientist is a free moral agent.

When an individual joins the Church of Christ, Scientist, he or she makes a voluntary choice. That choice is to rely on God instead of medicine for healing, as did Christ Jesus.  Certainly no Christian Scientist is condemned or ostracized by the church for making a choice for medical treatment.

How do you go about healing?
You go about healing through prayer.

You go about healing through turning completely to God for the answer to one’s problem. Whether the problem seems to be a disease or a discord in the family, you turn to prayer.  Now, this isn’t just a matter of blind faith, or willpower or positive thinking.  It calls for an understanding of God and His laws through a study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook.  It means opening one’s heart and mind to the love of God

For serious study you may want to go to a Christian Science Reading Room for help and answers.
